This Forbes article does a nice job of showing the power of dual credit coursework that is tied to a logical and purposeful sequence of courses or to a clear pathway to an occupation or to a credential.  I liked the phrase used to accentuate planned pathways, which the article pointed out are much more effective than ‘random dual credit’ taking in terms of student success metrics.  this is a good quick read. National Student Clearinghouse Research Center has released this year’s ‘High School Benchmarks’ report

This report provides some striking data on the lasting impacts of Covid on student enrollments, persistence and disparities in post secondary enrollments.  There is some promising indicators that a rebound is underway, but the Covid class of 2020 seems to be left behind.   I didn’t look at the data itself, but for those looking for some validation of what many have noted or experienced, this report and the data may be very useful. Teacher Shortage addressed through a New Program in Ohio

This is another creative approach to filling the teacher pipeline for K12.  Governor DeWine introduced a new pathway to becoming a teacher through the State’s Apprenticeship structure. this affords some programing aspects in Apprenticeships that provide credit for prior experience and wage incentives that follow progress toward licensure. the program targets people who are already attached to public education, but are not in teaching roles.  Read the NEWS RELEASE HERE Read More

Olivia Sanchez reports on the dispirit access to tuition support for dual credit programing in a number of states

Access to dual credit programing has been raised as a new target objective for many states in addition to historic preferences for high achieving students only.  This article from the Hechinger Report and Olivia Sanchez looks at access to dual credit programing tuition support for undocumented students.  A review of state policy rules involving undocumented students shows a patchwork of exclusions to tuition support or even program enrollment that are tied to immigration status.  Read the full article HERE  Read More
